Sierra Essence offers a personalised selection of accommodation options. Since we live here and have developed excellent relationships with the accommodation agencies and hoteliers we can hand-pick the accommodation according to the specific requirements of our clients.
Accommodation options in Sierra Nevada are essentially split between Self-Catering Apartments or Hotels / Hostels.
There are no chalets available in Sierra Nevada and instead, larger parties travelling together can feasibly opt for a combination of two or more apartments within the same apartment block or else one of the hotel options. Group rates in hotels tend to be available where 20-25 or more people are travelling together under one booking name.

Apartments are filtered by the number of bedrooms in the apartment.
The resort is split into 3 prime Zones (Lower, Mid and Top) so as to give people a better idea as to roughly (or exactly) where they will be accommodated.
The Lower-Zone also comprises the two central squares: Plaza Pradollano & Plaza de Andalucia. This is where the majority of hotels and shops lie as well as the main access to the slopes.
The Mid-Zone is where the majority of self-catering apartment accommodations lie and is home to some of the better restaurants as well as the main nightlife area.
The Top-Zone is also predominantly self-catering accommodation and has direct access to the pistes via the "Virgen de las Nieves" car-park & 6-seater chairlift (not suitable for complete beginners!) without the need to drop down to the central squares.
Although general preferences tend to be for accommodation in the lower zone, the upper zones are rarely that far from anywhere and it should be appreciated that when in the mountains there will always be the liklihood of steps and uphill sections to contemplate, even lower down! All zones are linked by the "Parador" chairlift (covered on your lift pass) with an intermediary stop providing access to the Mid-Zone. The lift runs from 08.30 until 17.30 daily and will extend its closing time during particularly busy periods. The are also shuttle bus services (at extra cost) circuiting the village from top to bottom throughout the day until 20.00hrs.
Booking with Sierra Essence
Sierra Essence is an intermediary agency. We do not own or manage any accommodation units of our own and instead, through years of living and working in the resort, have built-up excellent relationships with all the accommodation providers here to offer the full range of options at the best prices. In fact, our policy is to offer the lowest rates available for hotel and apartment bookings whenever possible, together with personal advice on the best option to suit your requirements.
We have worked hard over the years to obtain special treatment for our clients. This means that when you book a hotel through us you will be allocated the best room available. And for self-catering options, we are usually able to book specific apartments for our clients rather than the standard booking policy here which is only to confirm apartment size and zone and then allocate accommodation on arrival.
In addition, we are the only company with a Rep here in resort - so if there is a problem with your accommodation or you need help or advice in general, we can sort things out for you immediately.
Our friendly, tailor-made service and low prices ensure that many of our clients return every year to Sierra Nevada, relying on us to organise their accommodation as well as all the other related services.
Hotels in Sierra Nevada are generally of a very good standard. Among the most popular hotels are the two 4 star Melia hotels (Sol y Nieve and Sierra Nevada) which are our top recommendation in terms of location and quality. These hotels together with the Kenia Nevada, Ziryab and Aparthotel Trevenque are at the top end of quality hotels in Sierra Nevada. For a slightly cheaper choice of hotel accommodation, the best options to consider are the Telecabina, Mont Blanc & GHM Monachil.
Also popular are the hotels located out of the resort which involve a drive into the resort each day. There are some lovely and very characterful hotels from just 10kms out of resort which offer not only proximity to the skiing but also a great way of becoming a little immersed in some of the local culture and way of life here.
Sierra Nevada has a complete range of self-catering apartments from bedsits (referred to in Spain as "Studios"), 1,2 and 3 bedroom apartments with the odd 4 bedroom apartment also occasionally available.
In our opinion, Sierra Nevada does not offer "luxury" self-catering options in spite of what some agencies may suggest! "Luxury" generally means the apartment has had a basic facelift (fresh coat of paint) with a flatscreen TV installed and perhaps some modern (IKEA) furniture or parquet flooring added too. As far as the facilities go, the most that could be expected would be perhaps an oven or dishwasher and maybe even a washing machine. Due to the number of individual accommodation agencies operating in Sierra Nevada, self-catering options can be confusing and the rates greatly varied. As such, we always ask for as much information as possible regarding your requirements, expectations etc. and recommend to any clients requiring something of a higher standard to consider hotel accommodation over and above self-catering.
Our philosophy when selecting self-catering accommodation to offer to our clients is based on two factors: Firstly we ask ourselves: "Would we be happy staying here for a ski break?" Secondly, we choose those agencies which fulfil the following criteria: competitive pricing, satisfactory apartments and, importantly, those which offer reliable suppport if any maintenance or other related issues arise, thereby resolving things as quickly as is reasonably possible to minimize any inconvenience to our clients.
Having operated in this manner now for many seasons, we at Sierra Essence are finding that clients booking into self-catering accommodation are more and more satisfied, simply because they are more aware of what to expect upon arrival. Generally most people visit Sierra Nevada to make the most of the skiing opportunities here and a high standard of accommodation is not of prime concern so long as it is clean, warm and adequate to base themselves in for the duration of their stay.
Due to the varied nature of self-catering options available, please refer to point number 10 of our Terms and Conditions where specific details are laid out for consideration when making a reservation with us.
